Airlines : A matter of Perception

On the eve of my recent trip to Hyderabad, I was horrified to discover that the travel desk had booked me on Air India (Fare Rs 3033) for the onward journey. Luckily my return journey was on Jet Airways (Fare Rs 4312). Little did I know that my experience with both airlines would be contrary to my expectations.

Air India managed to keep me entertained with the in-flight entertainment system, good breakfast and the air hostesses managed to fit luggage in the overhead bin with a smile. Air India has managed to convert motherly love to sisterly love. Kudos to them.

The return flight was anything but pleasant. The flight was a Jet Connect and the aircraft was an ATR. Needless to say there was room for only small sized hand baggage's and not the overnighters that me and seven of my other American co passengers were carrying. The Air Hostess huffed and puffed all the way trying to put the baggage's in the over head compartments. All the overnigters landed up in the checked in baggage. Neither the ground crew nor the baggage handlers had the common sense of realising this discripancy. Anyone in this business would have realised that overnighters would not fit in. The air hostess finally lost her cool and started yelling at the ground crew, which was audible to everybody seated on the flight. Soon most of us were chuckling to ourselves as she went through with the motion of welcoming us and demostrating the safety features. Maybe she had broken a nail, but the lack of professionalism was obvious.

Now the question is why is Jet perceived to be better than Air India? and is my experience a one off case?

Do let me know?
