Scorpions in Bangalore : Stung not quite!!

Scorpions in Bangalore: Stung, not quite!

For starters, Dec 16th could've been just another pleasant weather days in Bangalore, if not how "Scorpions" humored us. With a touch of breeze in our heads and not much happening in the air waves we were clearly left adjusting our concert expectations. It became a virtual precedent on what not to do and what to do better ordinarily while playing.

The venue, Palace Grounds has indeed seen a many acts perform and enthrall, think it'll be fair to adjudge this tryst with Scorpions as just another act visiting the city and being seen. ala Marketing suggests the usual: album sales, mind recall, media coverage, endorsements etc. and even still this show's been less than average a giving, quite reflecting in the turnout. It is the ticket pricing which also left a bad strain amongst a few observers Rs.1000, 1500 and hold on ......... 7500 (phew!, seating in an open air ground sucks! and beer). So the haves and the have-nots have been identified and segregated, now where in the world was rock music for the classes (a lot of them were seen dancing BTW).

The electronics of the show although could've been improved vastly, since most of it is handled backstage and if anything commercial acts have little say in these, sound was lackluster to say the least. All in all a few things to learn for hopeful band members of the future: inspiration is elsewhere, please jam full volume and practice your stage antics well especially stick chucking if your drummer has a penchant for showmanship.

The take away from the concert was the Opening act called Nerve wreck; this is one promising act for the future, lovely sense of melody and excellent drums. The drum solo from James Kottak tops the pieces to remember for me, besides Klaus Meine still manages to pierce high notes.

Now onto the concert goer’s, a few rules and advises:
1) Dress code: Black T-shirts only
2) If Palace Grounds, a good place to tank up is Windsor Pub although nothing beats Pecos
3) Indulge in small concert talk at these pubs; one gets interesting pieces to follow up on
4) Try a new trick each time to freight "stuff" inside (ask me and folded Jeans are a good option)

Hopefully Megadeth and Machinehead should de-spray the Scorpion rain. The Order of the Faithfull’s shall resume March 14th or even before 1st Feb for Maiden (but that’s Bombay!).
