Manchester United treats Roma to some fish and chips!!!!!
Imagine a scenario when a stage is set Roma needs a draw while United needs to score a single goal and not let Roma score well relatively simple except that Roma is coached by Luciano Spaletti and are heavily inspired by Machiavelli and gamesmanship while united love to play tough attacking football.
The result a heavy clinical 7-1 drubbing by Manchester United on night that also saw Chelsea just sneak into the last four.
The build up to the game was intense Roma fresh from their win at Rome inspired by Machiavelli and Manchester United vowing to come back after the weekend loss at Fatten Park to the Pompey.
And Roma continued with its gamesmanship the coach had started it all by saying that Totti was unfit and but hopefully would start but there is no doubt in my mind that he will start. It is sad that at times the focus shifts away from the game and into all this which is essentially against the spirit of the game.
Sir Alex has seen it all, being too much of a veteran to get suckered in by the hype and kept his focus on the game rather than the off-pitch strategies that Roma was indulging in.
Sun Tzu says that the element of surprise is the key in winning a battle and Sir Alex had one up his sleeve. By starting with Alan Smith he baffled most trade pundits and must have surprised Roma too. Smith is a tough player and an asset to the Manchester United side. Plus there were the usual suspects Ronaldo and Rooney. To add to this mix in my opinion the most under rated player at United, Michael Carrick.
The result a 7-1 loss that was the worst drubbing Roma has ever received in its history.
In my earlier blog I had mentioned that if Roma win then it shows that Gamesmanship does work and if they don’t its poetic justice, well I never imagined a scenario if they got thrashed!!!!!
So sum it all Machiavelli spent his last few days in the dungeon…
Roma coach Luciano Spaletti has won just one Serie C trophy….
And Manchester United thrashed Roma 7-1 to enter the semi-finals
