For a Few Onions more...

The last couple weeks have been very interesting. Due to massive floods in Pakistan, they have been desperately short on food stuff. They are actually in the process of importing food grains and vegetables from India.

The most in demand vegetable seems to be onions. As a Delhite, I am very sensitive to onions. Was it not the onions that led to the fall of the BJP in Delhi, a loss they are yet to recover from. It led to the Shiela Dixit becoming the Cm and she has really transformed Delhi.

So to my rude surprise I found out the last week on my grocery shopping visit to the market that the price of Onions had sky rocketed. It was trading at Rs 40 per Kilogram and the size of the onions was puny. Now I don't mid paying that much if we had floods in India, but I refuse to pay that price for puny onions, while some pathan in North West Frontier province is munching on Juicy onions along with his kabab for dinner.

So is that is the result of globalisation and a more favourable export policy with Pakistan that all the good onions will go to them while we are left with the stubs?

So like my European friends I want our domestic rights protected and for a few onions more, I want all trade with our neighbours stopped.
